From the Holy Father
"I am pleased to greet the members of The Papal Foundation on this, your annual visit to Rome. Our meeting today is pervaded by the joy of the Easter season, as the Church celebrates the Lord’s victory over death and his gift of new life in the Holy Spirit. It is my hope that your pilgrimage to the Eternal City will strengthen you in faith and hope, and in your commitment to promote the Church’s mission by supporting so many religious and charitable causes close to the heart of the Pope.
"Today’s world, so often torn by violence, greed and indifference, greatly needs our witness to the Gospel message of hope in the redemptive and reconciling power of God’s love. I am grateful for your desire to assist the Church’s efforts to proclaim that message of hope to the ends of the earth and to work for the spiritual and material advancement of our brothers and sisters throughout the world, especially in developing countries. Each of us, as a living member of Christ’s body, is called to foster the unity and peace that is the Father’s will, in Christ, for our human family and all its members. I ask you, as a vital part of your commitment to the work of The Papal Foundation, to pray for needs of the poor, the conversion of hearts, the spread of the Gospel, and the Church’s growth in holiness and missionary zeal. And I ask you, please, not to forget to pray for me!
"Dear friends, with these words of encouragement, and with great affection, I commend you and your families to the loving intercession of Mary, Mother of the Church. To all of you I impart my Apostolic Blessing as a pledge of abiding joy and peace in the Lord.
"I am pleased to welcome all of you, the Members, Trustees and Stewards of Saint Peter of The Papal Foundation, as you return to the Vatican for your annual pilgrimage. It is a great joy for me to be with you again, and to express my appreciation for your generous support of my ministry and the Church throughout the world. In the name of all those who are assisted through your charitable works, I say thank you.
"This year your pilgrimage takes place within the Jubilee of Mercy, during which we contemplate the mystery of mercy, that wellspring of joy, serenity and peace, upon which our salvation depends (cf. Misericordiae Vultus, 2). We are called by Christ to share this mercy with those who are spiritually and materially in need through the spiritual and corporal works of mercy, with that spirit of generosity and tenderness that reflects God’s immeasurable goodness.
"As Members, Trustees, and Stewards of The Papal Foundation, the works of mercy are at the heart of your mission. Through your generous support of diocesan, parish and community projects, as well as through providing scholarships, you assist many people to further respond to the local needs of their communities and to undertake ever more fruitfully works of mercy. In this way, your charity reverberates throughout the world, offering new initiatives that help to extend the merciful embrace of the Father.
"I pray that, with God’s grace, these days of pilgrimage have been for you a new impetus to holiness, and that you have experienced powerfully the gift of God’s mercy. Saint Paul reminds us to never grow tired of doing good (cf. Gal 6:9; 2 Thess 3:13). May our heavenly Father sustain you in your good works, but above all may he lead you to an ever deeper faith and experience of his unending love. Know that my prayers and blessing go with you, and, please, do not forget to pray for me. Thank you!
“I extend greetings and warm good wishes to the Board of Trustees of The Papal Foundation and to the Stewards of Saint Peter gathered in the Apostolic Nunciature, and I assure all of you a particular remembrance in my prayers.
“As the universal Church begins her celebration of the extraordinary Jubilee of Mercy, I thank you for the generous support of the Apostolic See and its efforts to serve the material and spiritual growth of our brothers and sisters in faith throughout the world.
“With prayers that this Year of Grace will confirm you and your families in the reconciling love of Christ the Savior, I cordially impart my apostolic Blessing as a pledge of his gifts of enduring joy and peace.”
“Dear Friends, I offer a warm welcome to you, the Members and Trustees, and Stewards of Saint Peter of The Papal Foundation who have come to Rome to your annual pilgrimage. Your visit to the tombs of the Apostles is a reverent sign of the communion with the See of Peter which has been the hallmark of the Foundation since its beginning.
“I pray that this experience may deepen your faith, and encourage you to give fresh expression in your living and transmitting the one, holy, catholic and apostolic faith that comes to us from the Apostles.
“The wide variety of projects supported by the Foundation gives witness to the ceaseless efforts of the Church to promote the integral development of the human family, conscious as she is of the immense and ongoing needs of so many of our brothers and sisters.
“Wisely does The Papal Foundation devote a sizeable percentage of its resources to the education and formation of young priests, religious and lay men and women, hastening the day when their local Churches may be self-supportive, and, indeed, pass on the fruits of such generosity to others.
“I wish to reaffirm my gratitude for the hard work and sacrifice that your offering entails, and to assure you of my heartfelt prayers for you, your loved ones, and all those whom you support.
“As the Church prepares for the coming of the Jubilee of Mercy, I ask our Lord Jesus Christ, ³the face of the Father¹s mercy² (Misericordiae Vultus, 1), to refresh and renew each one of you through his mercy, the greatest of his many gifts.
“May each of you experience the healing and freedom that come from the encounter of forgiveness and gratuitous love offered in the sacraments of Reconciliation and the Eucharist. I commend each of you and your families to the loving intercession of the Blesses Virgin Mary and that of Saint Peter. Upon you, I cordially impart my Apostolic Blessing as a pledge of peace in Christ Jesus the Risen Savior. ”
“I extend greetings and prayerful good wishes to the Board of Trustees of The Papal Foundation and to the Stewards of Saint Peter on the occasion of the annual meeting in Washington, DC.
“I am most grateful to all of you for your fidelity to Successor of Peter and your generous concern for the needs of the universal Church, especially her apostolate among the poor and in the developing nations.
“This commitment to Christian charity remains as urgent as ever for the Church’s growth throughout the world and the material and spiritual support of our brothers and sisters in the faith.
“To you and your families I send my blessing as a pledge of abiding joy and peace in the Lord.”
“The needs of God’s people throughout the world are great, and your efforts to advance the Church’s mission are helping to fight the many forms of material and spiritual poverty present in our human family, and to contribute to the growth of fraternity and peace.
“…The work of The Papal Foundation is above all one of spiritual solidarity with the Successor of Peter. I ask you, then, to continue to pray for my ministry, for the needs of the Church, and in a particular way for the conversion of minds and hearts to the beauty, goodness and truth of the Gospel.”
