Mtendere Mission Hospital is owned by the Diocese of Monze and under the management of the Sisters of Charity providing in-patient and out-patient care. The 134-bed hospital is the only hospital for the surrounding rural area, serving a population of more than 72,000 people.

The major challenges the hospital faced were the lack of medicine, shortage of doctors and nurses to care for the increased number of patients due to Covid, and the lack of funds to procure food for daily meals.

The Papal Foundation’s grant of $33,784 received in February 2021 provided mostly for procuring needed drugs, but also provided for much needed food for patients.

“Mtendere Mission Hospital, management, staff, patients and the community of Chirundu at large are grateful to the Papal Foundation for the support rendered in helping those in need, with no distinction of nationality, religious or ethnicity, and with a special attention to the poor.”

What an amazing video that shows just how impactful The Papal Foundation can be by providing the resources needed to make the hospital effective in providing medical and health services for its community! Thank you for your generosity!
